Mark Coles is to lead the services which will be on the third Sunday in the month. Don't forget that on these days there will be a Sunday School, but no Morning Worship. On the other Sundays it will be Morning Worship as usual.

A CHRISTENING! It is a long time since a baby was baptised at our Church, so March 16th is a special day indeed, and we do hope for a good congregation, at 10.45am This will be a service for all ages, led by the minister.

REMEMBER THE NADIN'S? Jack scoured old copies of Staveley News when we had a web-site enquiry from The Nadin Society. He came up with some 1957/8 references when the family lived in "Gentlemen's Row below the chapel. Has anyone any memories of the Nadin family?

MORE FROM AUSTRALIA Our web-site correspondent, Mrs Colton of Victoria sent greetings at Christmas with colour photocopies of her Sunday School prize - 96 marks in 1954, her mission collectors certificate, and her Good Templar Lodge Examination certificate. Mrs Colton was Vera Clarke, and she lived near to Mr.Large on Station Road. In her family were Fred, Edna, Brenda and Alan. Vera has fond memories of Mr. Large in his black waist-coat and shirt sleeves rolled up, of Mr.Smith in his grey suit, tall and slim with white hair, and of Mr.Richardson, who, she recalls, passed round the collecting box. The envelope from Vera actually arrived on Christmas Eve, it was so good to hear from her. What a wonderful thing the web is. In our case it truly is WORLD WIDE.

FROM MARGARET SIMPSON Margaret has sent a message of thanks to our Church for the love and support shown on the passing of her mum Mrs Hilda Storey. The collecting plate at the back of the church realized £129, which Margaret asked to be given to Mount Tabor.

CIRCUIT PRAYER MEETING The Circuit Prayer Meeting took place on Friday week at our church. We began with a cup of tea and enjoyed fellowship and prayer.

PARTIES There have been two Children's Parties in our Hall since Christmas. Don't forget we have a hall second-to-none for such occasions, at a very reasonable rate. Contact Mrs Hill, 470879.

COVENANT SERVICE Despite the snow, our Covenant Service with our minister was a good way to start off the new year. Peter also had a prayer with the Sunday School

MRS ANGELA HEARNSHAW We were sorry to hear last week of the death of Angela Hearnshaw. Angela and Brian with their children Carly and Simon used to live on Sycamore Road. They worked and worshipped with us before moving to Christchurch, Bournemouth. Angela and Brian called at last year's Jubilee Party which we held for the children. Despite Angela being in considerable pain, it was good to share a few minutes together, and made us think of happier times. Our love and our prayers are with the family.

I know not what the future hath
Of marvel or surprise
Assured alone that life and death
His mercy underlies

January 2003

CHRISTINGLE 75! We took out Christmas Cards to homes around the chapel, 300 in all, with details of the Christmas services. This resulted in a congregation of 75 - we had made 60 Christingles. Rev Mark Coles led the service, Darley Dale Brass Ensemble provided the music, and the children sang and did a nativity tableaux. We are indebted to Mark and the Band for such a memorable service.

MRS HILDA STOREY In Hilda's sudden death on December 19th we lost a friend who was positive and cheerful, preferring the background "making cups of tea" to the limelight. Hilda lived in the Railway Cottages on Station Road. She enjoyed coming to chapel until her health became poor. She was a member of the famous Ladies Circle and even more famous ladies Concert Party. Rev. David Whitehouse, speaking at her funeral, remembered a lively lady "with a sweet tooth" - a reference to her wonderful cakes. We sang "What a Friend", Hilda's most requested hymn. There was a good company for the Funeral, reflecting the love and respect we had for Hilda. The service was followed by Cremation. To Margaret, Alan and their families, we offer the condolences of our Church. Take it to the Lord in Prayer..

PANTOMIME VISIT On the Monday before Christmas 30 children and adults enjoyed "Dick Whittington" at Chesterfield Pomegranate. For the first time we had a bus supplied by Community Transport. As it was raining this was very welcome. The theatre has stopped giving a discount for small parties, which increased the cost to us, but once again we thank those who gave donations to help defray the expense.

CHRISTMAS DAY The preacher on Christmas morning was Mrs May Hoyes, the theme was "HOPE" It was a good service and the attendance was 22, literally made up of all ages.

MRS VERA COLTON Mrs Vera Colton, nee Clarke, now living in Victoria, Australia has sent an interesting package which arrived on Christmas Eve. Look out for more details in next month's Newsletter. Vera emigrated in 1969.
