Mount Tabor Mission StatementOUR AREAWe are surrounded by houses, New Brimington was built in Victorian times, Hollingwood in the 1920's. Mount Tabor is on the boundary of both. There is well in excess of 3000 people living locally. We are their only Church. NUMBERSOur numbers, with a few notable exceptions, are small. We have 10 members and 10 children on the Sunday School register. The children are not those of Church members, so we see these links as an important contact. BUILDINGSThe buildings are kept in good order. The exterior is made to look attractive and inviting. Anti-vandal measures are not intrusive. The church is fully equipped to meet the 2004 Disability legislation, with sound and loop system for the hard-of-hearing, large-print hymn books for the partially sighted, disabled toilet facility and ramp access to one level throughout the building. OUTWARD LOOKINGWe have obviously limited resources to "evangelise". Nevertheless we have had regular leaflet distribution including a "Welcome to your new home" and invitation to the Juniper estate at Hollingwood, regular invitations to such things as All-Age Worship, Christmas services, August 2004 Childrens Holiday Club. We also try to avoid the trap of being inward looking with generous support to many charities including Samaritans Purse, Aid for Romania, and our own Methodist-based organizations. WORSHIPOur Worship tends to be mainly traditional. Though we we are quite willing to see change, it would be foolish to alienate our existing congregation with dramatic change. We seek to have a time of worship that is "universal" with hymns old and new, readings King James and Street-wise, prayers read and extempore, so that all needs are met. OUTREACHWe will continue to keep contact with the local community via leaflet drops and resulting personal contact. We will soon be having a regular Bible Study group which we hope will strengthen us spiritually, and hopefully involve some people "on the fringe" CONCLUSIONDespite our small numbers we aim for a wide vision. We seek, with God's help, to work together, to be faithful and loyal to Him. We aim to be a spiritual light in our area.
